Philippe Alliot pulled in his Peugeot 905 for a pit stop and a driver change with Jean-Pierre Jabouille then suddenly there was a fire because of a fuel leak.
It would cause the Peugeot to drop further down in the field in the early hours of the race and eventually the engine gave away after three hours.
